What is the UPSC Syllabus for Civil Services Exam?

Main Exam: The Main Exam consists of nine papers, out of which two are qualifying in nature: Paper-A: Any Indian Language (Qualifying) Paper-B: English (Qualifying) The remaining seven papers are as follows: Paper-I: Essay Paper-II: General Studies I — Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography of the World and Society Paper-III: General Studies II — Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International relations Paper-IV: General Studies III — Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Security, and Disaster Management Paper-V: General Studies IV — Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude Paper-VI: Optional Subject Paper 1 Paper-VII: Optional Subject Paper 2
2. Optional Subjects: Candidates can choose one optional subject from a list provided by the UPSC. Some popular optional subjects include History, Geography, Public Administration, Sociology, Political Science, etc.
3. Interview (Personality Test): Candidates who qualify in the Main Exam are called for the Interview. It assesses the candidate’s overall personality, communication skills, and suitability for a career in the civil services.
